HeatSmart encourages home energy audits and the adoption of highly energy-efficient heat pump systems to heat and cool homes throughout our community.  The program is open to all residents, whether you are a homeowner or a renter.  It is a great first step to help you make informed choices and connects you to resources to improve the efficiency and comfort of your home.  In addition to becoming more educated, you can get a low-cost or free energy audit to evaluate your home and make it more energy-efficient.  The program provides financial incentives if you choose to install energy-efficiency improvements that help reduce the cost.

With over 30% of the energy consumed in the state being used to heat and cool buildings, there has never been a better time to act.  Leaky, drafty homes waste energy and cost more money. Reducing leaks and Installing a heat pump can help reduce the energy your home uses.  Find out if it is a good fit for you!

Sustainable Southbury has a new initiative to help residents take advantage of home energy efficiency opportunities – HeatSmart Southbury.   Sustainable Southbury is partnering with Peoples Action for Clean Energy (PACE) to encourage both Home Energy Audits and the adoption of zero-emission, heat pump systems to heat and cool homes.

Residents may sign up for an energy audit or choose to work with Southbury’s pre-selected Home Energy Solutions (HES) contractor. During the audit, the technicians will evaluate the energy efficiency of the home, seal air leaks, and carry out other basic efficiency measures as needed. These improvements typically provide significant cost savings to participants off of their energy bills. Technicians will make additional recommendations for deeper weatherization measures such as insulation.  Income-eligible residents may qualify for a no-cost home energy audit through the Home Energy Solutions Income Eligible Program and no-cost or deeply discounted energy measures such as insulation.
