Kathryn Hebert, Chair of Bethel Sustainability Commission

The Sustainable Bethel Commission was recently established by Town resolution with the primary mission to enhance the overall quality of life in Bethel and to make it more desirable in which to live, work and play.  The Commission’s primary goal is to develop, collaborate, support and implement sustainable projects including environmental, education, cultural and economic initiatives while engaging public input and participation.  Many of Bethel’s environmental goals have been achieved by the collaboration with the previous Bethel Energy Committee which is now folded into the Sustainable Bethel Commission.  The Commission plans to continue to develop energy efficiency and renewable energy for the Town of Bethel.  And, to continue working in partnership with PACE and the HeatSmart program improving clean energy, reducing pollution and saving residents hundreds of dollars in energy efficiencies.

Incentives and Assistance for Residents

The HeatSmart program connects you with pre-selected Home Energy Solutions (HES) contractors and Heat Pump specialists that have agreed to help Bethel conduct outreach and education. Residents are entirely free to work with other HES installers ( Call 1-877-WISE-USE / 1-877-947-3873) or to work with other HVAC professionals if they choose.

These selected professionals are working with Bethel to improve building efficiency and heating and cooling options for residents.

The HeatSmart partners will help you navigate the State incentives program, as well as the new Federal incentives available through the Inflation Reduction Act. If you are planning on purchasing a heat pump, consider working with our no-cost energy concierge service.
